Scholarship Programs
New River Light & Power Company contributes $750,000 each year to the general scholarship fund at Appalachian State University. This contribution goes to support the Chancellor's Scholarship and other scholarships awarded in the name of the university.
In addition, New River Light & Power Company administers a scholarship program in conjunction with the
scholarship programs offered by Appalachian State University. All current graduating high school seniors residing in Watauga County who have been accepted to Appalachian State University are eligible to apply for the New River Light and Power Scholarship.
The New River Light and Power Scholarship is renewable for up to eight consecutive semesters or four years of undergraduate work, excluding summer sessions. All recipients must maintain a required GPA at the end of each academic year in order to retain the scholarship.
